Chambers took over the Anglo American chair from Sir John Parker in 2017 and has since presided over the board through BHP's rejected takeover approach in 2024 and the group's radical restructuring. At the August 2026 interim results he said he would hand over to Teck chair Sheila Murray, who is to chair Anglo Teck, but only once the merger actually closes.
