Sylvania Platinum closes FY2026 with record 95,885 oz of production
Fourth-quarter revenue fell 38% as the PGM basket price dropped 25%, even as full-year output hit a company record and cash held above $67m

Sylvania Platinum reported record annual production of 95,885 4E PGM ounces for the year to 30 June 2026, the highest in the company's history, alongside attributable chrome concentrate production of 50,317 tonnes. The fourth quarter alone contributed 23,868 4E ounces, up 4% quarter-on-quarter, but financial performance in the same quarter fell back sharply: net revenue dropped 38% to $48.5m and adjusted EBITDA fell 65% to $16.9m as the average 4E basket price the company received declined 25% to $2,299/oz.
A production record despite a softer price
The divergence between record physical output and weaker quarterly financial results underlined how sensitive even a well-run tailings-retreatment business remains to short-term swings in the PGM basket price, regardless of operational performance. Sylvania's group cash balance nonetheless rose 6% quarter-on-quarter to $67.2m, helped by the group's debt-free balance sheet, even after cash outflows of $17.3m to meet tax obligations.
Returning cash while investing for the future
The company paid an interim dividend of $7.0m in April 2026 and separately bought back 205,000 shares for $0.3m during the quarter. Its Doornbosch operation reached 14 years without a lost-time injury, a safety milestone management highlighted alongside the production record. Sylvania scheduled its full audited final results for 15 September 2026, with an investor presentation the following day.
The record annual output capped a financial year in which Sylvania had repeatedly lifted guidance as its various Bushveld Complex processing plants and its Thaba chrome joint venture performed ahead of expectations, notwithstanding a bout of flooding at Thaba earlier in the year. For a company built on reprocessing material other miners had already discarded, delivering a production record in the same year that PGM basket prices both rose sharply and then retreated from their highs demonstrated a degree of operational resilience that distinguished Sylvania from some of the larger, more price-dependent primary producers in the sector. The company said its full audited results, due in mid-September, would provide further detail on the drivers behind the year's record output. The company said its full audited results, due in mid-September, would provide further detail on the drivers behind the year's record output, including the performance of individual processing plants across its Bushveld Complex portfolio.
