Stewart succeeded founding chief executive Neal Froneman on 1 October 2025 after serving as CEO designate from March that year. He joined Sibanye in 2014 and was executive vice-president for business development, group chief operating officer and chief regional officer for Southern Africa; earlier he worked at Gold One, Goliath Gold, Uranium One and the CSIR. A Wits geology PhD, he has set a 'back to basics' course focused on cutting debt and costs.

Chief Executive Officer, Sibanye-Stillwater
Sibanye-Stillwater named long-serving executive Richard Stewart as CEO-designate from 1 March 2025, with a view to him taking over as chief executive when founding CEO Neal Froneman retired at the end of September 2025. Stewart, who had previously served as the group's chief operating officer, formally took the top job on 1 October 2025, ending Froneman's 12-year tenure at the gold, PGM and battery-metals producer.
