Calderon, a Colombian PhD economist, took over as AngloGold Ashanti's chief executive on 1 September 2021, arriving after a period at BHP and earlier stints as chief executive of explosives maker Orica and Colombian coal producer Cerrejón. He has since moved the company's primary listing to New York and pushed to close its valuation gap with North American peers.
