Cloete, a South African chartered accountant, joined Ivanhoe in 2006, became chief financial officer in 2009 and later president, before adding the chief executive title in early 2025. She has overseen the development of the Kamoa-Kakula copper complex in the DRC, the 2025 start-up of the Platreef platinum mine in Limpopo and the Kipushi zinc mine, and has handled the fallout from seismic activity at Kamoa-Kakula.
