Kumba Iron Ore

What Kumba Iron Ore does
Africa's largest iron ore producer and a JSE-listed subsidiary of Anglo American. Kumba was created in November 2006 when Kumba Resources was restructured, with its coal and mineral sands assets going to Exxaro. The company sells almost all of its high-grade ore to export markets through the Saldanha Bay port.
Kumba mines through Sishen Iron Ore Company, which owns the Sishen mine at Kathu and the Kolomela mine near Postmasburg, both in the Northern Cape; Exxaro holds a 20% stake in that company. Output depends heavily on Transnet's Sishen-Saldanha rail line. Production was 36.1Mt in 2025, and the company has guided to 31-33Mt for 2026 while ultra-high dense media separation technology is installed at Sishen.
