Xtra-Gold pushes Kibi drilling past 700 holes as it eyes a bigger Ghana resource
The junior has now drilled about 134,000 metres at its Kibi gold project and plans a further 20,000-metre programme in 2026

Toronto-listed Xtra-Gold Resources reported in a May 2026 field operations update that it has now completed 705 drill holes for approximately 134,000 metres within the resource footprint of its Kibi gold project in Ghana's Eastern Region. The company, which holds an established gold discovery across multiple mineralised zones in the Kibi-Winneba greenstone belt, plans to spend about $500,000 on surface exploration and a further $1.5 million on a 20,000-metre core drilling programme during 2026, funded from existing cash and the company's placer gold operations.
A debt-free junior with a growing database
Xtra-Gold reported total assets of about $19.8 million as at 31 March 2026, including cash, marketable securities and gold inventory, with no debt. That balance sheet, unusual for a junior explorer of Kibi's scale, gives the company room to keep drilling without relying on dilutive equity raises, a position helped by cash flow from its existing small-scale placer gold business alongside the exploration programme.
Why it matters
Kibi is a mid-stage project rather than a fully defined resource ready for development, and its most recent published mineral resource estimate, from 2024, already exceeded a million ounces in the indicated category across ten mineralised bodies within about 2.7km of each other. Continued drilling density at this scale increases the likelihood of a materially larger updated resource once Xtra-Gold next compiles one, at a time when investors are placing a premium on gold ounces in the ground anywhere in West Africa's established greenstone belts.
What happens next
The 2026 drilling programme is Xtra-Gold's near-term priority, with the company's own disclosures suggesting an updated resource estimate would follow once the current phase of infill and step-out drilling is complete, though no firm date for that update has been given.
